• American Meteorological Society Graduate Fellowship Program: This fellowship presents a $24,000 stipend for a nine-month period in the academic year. Recipients will also receive partial travel support to attend the AMS Annual Meeting.
• Department of Energy (DOE) Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (CSGF) Program
  The Department of Energy (DOE) CSGF fellowship provides a $36,000 yearly stipend, full tuition support, and yearly conferences. It is renewable for up to four years.
• Department of Energy (DOE) Graduate Fellowship Program
  The DOE SCGF is a three-year award that provides partial tuition support, an annual stipend for living expenses, and a research allowance for full-time graduate study and thesis/dissertation research at a U.S. academic institution.
• EPA Science to Achieve Results (STAR) Fellowships for Graduate Environmental Study
  This program awards graduate education fellowships for master’s and doctoral level candidates in environmentally related fields of study.
• EPS National Network for Environmental Management Studies (NNEMS)
  NNEMS provides students with practical research opportunities and experiences in an EPA office or laboratory. Students may complete the fellowship while working full-time at the EPA during the summer or part-time during the school year.
• Fulbright Grants for Graduate Study and Research Abroad
  Fulbright offers fellowships for U.S. graduate students to study abroad for one academic year.
• NASA Earth and Space Science Fellowship Program (NESSF)
  NESSF calls for graduate fellowship proposals from those pursuing master’s and doctorate degrees. Those whose proposals are selected will receive a training grant.
• NASA Graduate Student Researchers Project
  Research opportunities are located at each of the nine NASA centers and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Research areas are in disciplines that lead to aeronautics and space careers.
• NASA Jenkins Pre-doctoral Fellowship Project (JPFP)
  Applicants must be a member of an underrepresented group, which includes women, ethnic minorities and persons with disabilities.
• NASA National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program
  Fellowship awards for undergraduate and graduate students are $2,500 and $5,000, respectively. Preference is given to projects focusing on space or Earth system science, aerospace, and aeronautics.
• National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship (NDSEG)
  The NDSEG fellowship provides three years of full tuition support and monthly stipends.
• NOAA Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program
  These scholarships carry a 12-month stipend for each student of $30,000 and an annual cost-of-education allowance of up to $12,000 and up to $10,000 support for a four to six week research collaboration at a NOAA facility.
• NSF East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes for U.S. Graduate Students (EAPSI)
  This award provides U.S. graduate students with an international summer research experience. Applicants interested in EAPSI must propose a location, host scientist and a research project that is appropriate for the host site and duration of the visit.
• NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP)
  GRFP provides three years of support towards the graduate education of those who have demonstrated potential for significant achievements in science and engineering research. Each year of support includes a $30,000 stipend.
• Science Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program
  This program provides a full scholarship in exchange for serving at internships at Department of Defense (DOD) facilities and working for DOD after graduation.

Post-doctoral Programs

• Nation Science Foundation’s Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences Postdoctoral Research Fellowships (AGS-PRF)
  This program supports researchers for a period of up to two years and can be taken to the institution or national facility of their choice.
• NCAR’s Advanced Study Program
  Successful applicants receive a stipend of $57,500 in the first year, and $60,000 in the second year.
• NOAA Climate and Global Change Postdoctoral Fellowships
  This program focuses on observing, understanding, modeling, and predicting the climate system on seasonal and longer time scales. The salary is $57,500 in the first year and $60,000 for the second year.
• NOAA Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL)
  This program is a collaboration between AOS at Princeton University and NOAA/GFDL. The program is intended to support research in the atmospheric and oceanic sciences. Applications are sought twice a year; in April and October and applicants are strongly encouraged to contact GFDL and Princeton University scientists prior to application.

Internship and Summer Research Opportunities

• NCAR Graduate Visitor Program
  This program brings graduate students to NCAR for 3 to 12-month collaborative visits with NCAR staff.
• Scholars Program: Internships at DOE Labs
  Participants in the U.S. Department of Energy scholars program will apply their education, talent and skills in a variety of scientific research settings within the DOE complex.
• Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Program (GFDP) at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
  GFDP is held every summer for ten weeks in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Fellows accepted to participate will receive a $5,600 stipend.
• NASA Summer Internships
  NASA internships are available from high school to graduate level, and provide students with the opportunity to participate in either research or other experiential learning, under the guidance of a mentor at NASA.
