New Photography Contest to Showcase Student Talents
The goal of the Climate and Space Photography Contest is to recognize student talents, while exhibiting distinctive features of climate and space in the CSRB halls.
U-M Climate and Space is excited to announce a student photography contest, calling for entries of climate and space photography to showcase the talents of students in the department. The winner of the Climate and Space Photography Contest will receive the honor of seeing their photography in a permanent display in the halls of the Climate and Space Research Building, as well as a cash prize.
The goal of the Climate and Space Photography Contest is to present photos that represent the topics studied in the Department of Climate and Space, especially as it relates to landscape photography and astrophotography.
Ideas for possible submissions in the area of climate sciences include storm cells, tornadoes, atmospheric phenomena, weather events including ice, rain, or snow, mountain or glacier views related to climate observation, or evidence of climate change whether related to heat waves, rising sea levels or melting ice. Ideas for possible submissions in the area of the space sciences include rocket launches, aurora borealis or aurora australis, the Milky Way or other galaxies, solar images, or deep-sky objects, including planets or moons.
If there are enough entries, winners may be chosen in both the areas of climate sciences and space sciences.
Students who would like to compete in the contest are encouraged to submit 1-5 photographs by the deadline on Friday, May 5. New graduates are eligible to compete.
Photos may be taken at any time or place, and they must be the original work of the student photographer. Preference will be given to well-executed photos taken around campus or during fieldwork and trips related to the Department of Climate and Space (CLASP). Only students in CLASP are eligible to participate. The contest is open to students at any level of study, including undergraduates and graduate students. The winner(s) will be selected and notified by the end of May.
